We import from a strong portfolio of producers from France, Italy, New Zealand and California that reflect our love of wines that are made by people who share our passion for great wine and wines that reflect their place. In addition to this educate and have, for some years, now run the benchmark WSET qualification in Victoria and NSW and a suite of more informal courses written by the ourselves and our staff. There are two owners: Michael McNamara and Alex Wilcox (and their long-suffering wives) and together with 42 other committed (or perhaps should be committed) staff they run three wine retail outlets in South Melbourne and Sydney as well as a wine bar/restaurant Bellota and a wine cellarage business called Liquid Assets. What we are is an independently owned wine merchant, driven by our collective passion to source and share some of the greatest wines in the world with a similarly passionate group of punters…many of which are now friends and part of the PWS family. In some ways we are not even a retailer who could be selling anything tyres, widgets or beanie boos! We can only sell one thing…WINE! Maybe its easiest to start with who and what we are not! We are not a supermarket, discount chain, lowest-common-denominator liquor outlet. Perfectly pitched, this is a great vintage of Tiers, if not one of the greatest. There is a tightness to the palate but also a delicious fruit delicacy and lightness of touch well matched to its creamy texture and all beautifully balanced with bright acidity before a long, chalky finish. But what it is already showing is outstanding complexity with melon, citrus, florals sitting well matched to beautifully integrated oak, plus a touch of praline in the mix. It's not all bells and whistles right now, with greater restraint than the 1.5M, more Puligny than Meursault. There is self-assured confidence to this vintage of Tiers. (97) ANDREW CAILLARD MW, The Vintage Journal. Drinking well now, but best to keep for a while to allow the elements to fold. A resonating finish, highlighting pure fruits and persistent mineral length. Fresh and creamy textured with grapefruit, lime, bitter lemon, stone fruit flavours, fine loose knit chalky, hint of al dente textures, lovely mid palate viscosity and bell-clear acidity. Intense fresh grapefruit, lime, tonic water aromas with vanilla nougat notes. I think this is going to be a beautiful wine with requisite bottle age, and is likely to rate (even) higher in time. the tannin is quiet, and kind of latent, but swish it about in your mouth a bit, and their quality is revealed, especially on the long finish. It’s medium-bodied, kind of svelte and evenly weighted, just a little toasty oak, with some black olive and nori savoury elements. Red and black fruit, something of an aniseed pastille thing here too, some floral notes, tobacco, cedar, and baking spice. Easily approachable, even at this stage, it will age deceptively well, for at least 15 to 20 years. A fragrant, balanced Cab of excellent focus, exceptional length and serious grip. Even at this young stage, we see signs of the complexity that will surely follow. We have plums, mulberries, blackcurrants, tobacco leaves, dry herbs and beef stock. The nose immediately suggests that this is a wine of finesse and class. The blend is 90% Cabernet, 3% Cab Franc and 7% Petit Verdot. This latest vintage will do nothing but enhance its reputation. In recent vintages, the Moss Wood Cabernet has regained its position as one of this country’s very best Cabs. Drink 2026 – 2040+ (98) ANDREW CAILLARD, The Vintage Journal This has lovely weight and balance with the perfect structure for aging. Finishes firm and tight with a fine plume of tannin. Classical Margert River Cabernet with fresh blackcurrant, panforte flavours, fine grainy/ cedary tannins, underlying roasted chestnut oak notes and linear fresh acidity. Beautiful blackcurrant, wax polish, hint panforte aromas with vanilla notes.
